Dr. Alberto Forteza has been head of the Cardiovascular Surgery Service at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital, Madrid, and since 2006 he has been head of the Cardiac Surgery Service at the Quirón Salud Madrid/La Luz Hospitals. He has been president of the valvular disease and aorta section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology and is a member of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons and the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons. His main contribution has been in the field of aortic valve repair, aortic aneurysms and Marfan syndrome, having one of the greatest experiences in the world in these techniques, and extending their use with training activity and international courses. He is also an expert in the implantation of ventricular assist devices and artificial hearts, as well as in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy surgery.
Dr. H.J. Schäfers has headed the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Homburg, University of Saarland, Germany, from 1995 to 2024. He is a member of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons and the American Association of Thoracic surgeons. His main contribution has been the development and standardisation of surgical techniques for aortic valve repair, being a pioneer in this field and collaborating in the training of surgeons all over the world. He has the greatest personal experience in these techniques, with one of the largest scientific output. He is also one of the leading experts in Ross Technique and thoracoabdominal aneurysm surgery.
